Analyzing options trades effectively requires tracking key time-related metrics. Recently, three new columns have been added to TraderLog to help with this: Duration, DTEO (Days Till Expiration on Open), and DTEC (Days Till Expiration on Close). These provide critical data points for options traders.
What Do These Columns Mean?
- Duration: This column displays the number of days a trade was held, from entry to exit. It gives you a clear picture of how long you held a position.
- DTEO (Days Till Expiration on Open): This shows the number of days remaining until the options contract’s expiration at the time you opened the trade. It shows you the time remaining when you began the trade.
- DTEC (Days Till Expiration on Close): This shows the number of days remaining until the options contract’s expiration at the time you closed the trade. It shows you the time remaining when you ended the trade.
Why Are These Columns Important for Options Traders?
These columns provide critical insights into the time-sensitive nature of options trading. By viewing duration and DTE data alongside your other trade metrics, you can:
- Analyze the impact of time decay on your trades.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of your chosen expiration dates.
- Identify patterns in your holding periods and their impact on profitability.
- Improve your overall options trading strategy.
